ÄLTERE BAUEN MIT JÜNGEREN BRÜCKEN FÜR EUROPA
A time witness report written by Mr. Erwin Feige (Germany)

My name is Erwin Feige. I was born in Tilsit/East Prussia (today Sowjetsk/Russia) in 1935.

In October 1944 we had to leave our home because of the war, and we found admission in Thuringia. Thuringia belonged to the GDR, which had been founded in 1949.

I was proud and happy to complete my Abitur in Weida in 1953.

During the time at the grammar school, the male students were massively ask to declare their willingness to pursue a military occupational career. I belonged to them. No matter I applied for a study in Dresden and Chemnitz.

In Mai 1953 Chemnitz was renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt.

The national uprising on the 17th June 1953 changed the economic-political and military-political adjustment of the GDR.

A time witness report written by Mr. Erwin Feige (Germany)

Erwin Feige was born in the town Tilsit in East Prussia in 1935.

He lived carefree together with his parents and three siblings, notnoticing the happenings of the war. This life changed rapidly in summer 1944 because the house of the family was completely destroyed by bomb attacks.

Because the war front came closer to the town, his family (without his father) was sent to Saxony in October 1944 to be safe. (It was told only for some months.)

The first "escape" ended in the town Frankenberg in Saxony after a two-day train ride but the mother with her four children was not warmly welcomed by the allocated host family.

Summary contemporary witnesses report MALIMO

A time witness report written by Mr. Harry Weinert (Germany)

Since my studies of 1957, the new technology for the production of textile fabrics called "Malimo" has accompanied me more or less, but steadily. MALIMO is an original invention in the GDR by Mr. Rudolf Mauersberger. However, it is not directly comparable to other typical GDR inventions, such as BMT coke or low-shaft- furnaces. The product "MALIMO" is a technology called "sewing knitting technique " for the production of textile fabrics between the weaving and the knitting process. MALIMO has survived the political transition in 1989/90, but not without prejudice

At the beginning of 1956 the team around Mr. Mauersberger had to overcome great difficulties. Like all new developments, this technology had to be implemented. They assumed the reputation of requiring more material, (more yarn), per unit of area on textile fabrics.
The diagonal elongation is also greater than in woven fabrics, the effective application areas had to be crystallized.
Non-woven fabrics (vlies fabrics),
furnishing and decorating fabrics, sportswear, swimwear, carpeting outfits and much more were produced using this method and its variations, because all of the Mali-techniques had a higher production output than previously used weaving techniques.

A report written by Mrs. Danusa Permanova (Czech Republic)

The report describes Danusa Permanova`s memories of her time as a schoolchild, at the time after the second world war and her political moulding of the personality before and after the 1968`s events in her homeland.

Her parents were profoundly affected by the development of the country after 1948, after the political takeover of the communist party and the government under Klement Gottwald.
